The first executive meeting of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Osun State Chapter was convened on the 17th of June 2023 at the party secretariat located at Pepsi-Cola area, along Ikirun Road. The meeting commenced at 11:49 AM with a total of seven executive members in attendance, including the State Party Chairman, Comrade Wole Adedoyin, and the State Secretary, Comrade Abdulsalam Oludare. The meeting began with an opening prayer led by the State Secretary.

The Chairman, Comrade Wole Adedoyin, officially declared the meeting open, laying down the rules and regulations of the party to guide the proceedings. He proceeded to read out the agenda of the meeting, which primarily focused on the recent national convention, the postponed Southwest meeting, and the aftermath of the last party congress.

In his address, the Chairman started by providing a detailed report on the activities that transpired during the last national convention. He explained that some of the executive members present at the meeting were witnesses to the events. He emphasized the need for the executive members to work diligently for the progress of the party, urging them to be exemplary ambassadors of APGA.

The Chairman further addressed the issue of the postponed Southwest meeting, which had initially been planned but was unable to hold. He assured the executive members that a new date would be communicated soon. He also provided a situation report on the last congress held in conjunction with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), assuring everyone that the congress was conducted according to INEC’s laid-down rules and that all necessary documentation was in place.

Mr. Peter, one of the executive members, contributed to the discussion by supporting the Chairman's points. He expressed his views on the congress and made a critical suggestion regarding the financial situation of the party. Mr. Peter emphasized that without adequate financial resources, the party would find it challenging to execute its plans effectively. The members unanimously agreed on the need for financial contributions from all party members to sustain party activities.

Mrs. Bukky Ademola, another executive member, praised the Chairman for his leadership and the progress made so far. She offered prayers for the continued growth of the party and for all members. The issue of the party’s bank account was raised by the Secretary, which was subsequently addressed and rectified by the party.

The Chairman also touched on the importance of proper documentation of party information. Mr. Peter suggested the need to structure membership across all local governments in Osun State. The Chairman supported this idea and encouraged all members to engage in grassroots mobilization by working at the local government level, down to the unit level.

Mr. Victor, another executive member, offered prayers and words of encouragement to the members. He acknowledged the good recommendations from the national leadership and urged everyone to continue putting in their best efforts. Mr. Awojide Peter reiterated the financial constraints faced by the party and stressed that achieving success would be difficult without adequate funding.

The members agreed on the need to intensify efforts to promote APGA across the state, with the goal of increasing membership in every part of Osun State. Baba Abimbola, an elder within the party, provided words of wisdom, emphasizing the importance of unity and love among members. He stressed that achieving tangible results would require collective effort and cooperation.

The Chairman raised the issue of inaugurating party members in all local governments. However, he noted that this initiative would require financial resources to be effectively carried out. Mr. Gbadebo Adekunle highlighted the issue concerning the updating of the INEC list with the current Chairman's name, replacing the former Chairman's name. The Chairman reassured everyone that this issue would be addressed promptly.

The Chairman also cautioned against division within the party, encouraging members to adhere to the advice of Baba Elite regarding unity and love. He proposed the idea of financial contributions as a way to overcome the party’s current financial challenges. Mr. Victor supported this proposal and emphasized its potential to yield positive results.

Finally, Mr. Awojide Peter shared his thoughts on the discussions, further reinforcing the need for financial stability and strategic planning. The meeting concluded with a resolution to continue working towards the growth of APGA in Osun State and to ensure that the party’s objectives are met.

The meeting was adjourned with a closing prayer, bringing the session to an end at approximately 2:00 PM.

APGA-SOUTHWEST DECLARES UNFLINCHING SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL CHAIRMAN, BAR. SLY EZEOKENWA (JR) AND HIS NWC MEMBERS

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Southwest zone, under the leadership of the National Vice Chairman, Southwest, Alhaji Owolabi Suraj Olanrewaju, along with the State Chairmen and the general membership of the party, unequivocally reaffirms its steadfast support for our young and dynamic National Chairman, Bar. Sly Ezeokenwa (Jr). His emergence, alongside other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), from the National Convention conducted by Ozonkpu Dr. Victor Oye, and witnessed by INEC officials on May 31st, 2023, at the International Conference Centre, Awka, Anambra State, stands as a testimony to the legitimacy of their leadership.

Our unwavering loyalty to the leadership of APGA under Bar. Sly Ezeokenwa (Jr) is rooted in our collective belief in his vision and capability to steer the party toward greater heights. His youthfulness and vibrancy bring a renewed sense of purpose and direction, which is essential for the continued progress of our great party. We also reaffirm our recognition of the current Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, as our party's National Leader, whose influence and guidance are invaluable to our mission.

We wish to categorically warn those who are parading themselves as new National APGA Executive members to desist from their reckless and baseless claims. APGA is a party that adheres strictly to its constitutional provisions, where party officials at the National, State, Local Government, and Ward levels emerge through legitimate Congress and Convention processes. The party does not issue letters of appointment to its officials; rather, they are elected through a transparent and democratic process.

There has been no court order that has nullified the election of Bar. Sly Ezeokenwa (Jr) and his National Working Committee members. Therefore, any claims to the contrary are nothing more than the desperate antics of political jobbers and impostors who seek to undermine the integrity of our party through illegitimate means.

The public is hereby notified to be vigilant against the activities of these impostors. These unscrupulous individuals, who are attempting to wrest power through crooked and illegitimate channels, are not recognized by the legitimate organs of our party. We appeal to all our genuine members, both at home and in the diaspora, to remain united and resolute in support of our duly elected leadership.

We are closely monitoring the actions of these impostors, who are scavenging for what they can unlawfully seize. Let it be known that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them, and they will be held accountable for their actions. APGA remains committed to upholding the rule of law, and we will not tolerate any attempt to destabilize our party.

The Southwest zone of APGA, under the leadership of Alhaji Owolabi Suraj Olanrewaju, and with the support of key NWC members, including Pastor Olatunji Popoola (National Auditor) and Mr. Rufus Alabi Jegede (National Deputy Organizing Secretary), is fully aligned with the vision and direction of the National Chairman, Bar. Sly Ezeokenwa (Jr). Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen APGA and ensure its success in future elections.

In conclusion, we reiterate our unflinching support for Bar. Sly Ezeokenwa (Jr) and his NWC members. We stand firm in our commitment to the principles of democracy and the rule of law, which are the bedrock of our great party. APGA is a party of the people, and we will not allow a few misguided individuals to derail our collective aspirations.

We call on all members of APGA in the Southwest and beyond to rally behind our National Chairman and his team. Together, we will build a stronger, more united, and prosperous APGA that will continue to serve the interests of the Nigerian people.

Signed:

Alhaji Owolabi Suraj Olanrewaju

LG Autonomy: Alh. Suraj Owolabi Calls for Apology from Gov. Seyi Makinde to the People of Oyo State

LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTONOMY: ALHAJI SURAJ OWOLABI CALLS FOR APOLOGY FROM GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE TO THE PEOPLE OF OYO STATE

Alhaji Suraj Owolabi, the former Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Oyo State and currently the National Vice Chairman of the party, has expressed strong condemnation towards the recent stance of Governor Seyi Makinde regarding the Supreme Court's ruling on the financial autonomy of Local Government Councils in Nigeria. Owolabi described the Governor's reaction as quack, illiterate, and ignorant, emphasizing the need for an immediate apology to the people of Oyo State.

Owolabi criticized Governor Makinde's disregard for the Supreme Court's decision, stating that such a position undermines the rule of law and the principles of democracy. He highlighted that the Governor's reaction not only reflects poorly on his understanding of legal matters but also sets a dangerous precedent for other states.

"I am not surprised by the pronouncements of the so-called Council Chairmen because they were appointed by the Governor," Owolabi said. "He who plays the piper dictates the tune. However, the Governor should understand that Oyo State cannot be an exception to the rule of law. If he maintains his stand, the Federal Allocation Committee might as well withhold funds, which would result in no salaries for local government staffers during this period."

Owolabi stressed that Oyo State has always been known as a pace-setter and should continue to set good examples for others to follow. He urged Governor Makinde to reconsider his stance and align with the Supreme Court's ruling to ensure the smooth functioning of local government councils in the state.

"The Governor should apologize to Nigerians, the people of Oyo State in general, and the citizens of Ibadan in particular," Owolabi continued. "Such an apology is necessary for our state to move forward. This issue cannot be politicized, and it is imperative that we uphold the integrity of our institutions."

He further warned that failure to comply with the Supreme Court's ruling could lead to severe consequences, including the potential withholding of federal allocations, which would adversely affect the livelihoods of local government employees and the overall development of the state.

"Our state is renowned for its leadership and innovation," Owolabi said. "We must not allow this issue to tarnish our reputation. The Governor's actions should reflect the high standards that Oyo State is known for. An apology is a step towards restoring trust and moving past this controversy."

In conclusion, Owolabi called on all stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of the people and respect the judicial processes that safeguard democracy. He reiterated the importance of maintaining harmony and working together for the common good of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.

"Let us move on from this issue with a renewed commitment to justice and progress," Owolabi said. "God bless Nigeria, and may our leaders always strive to act in the best interests of the people they serve."
