Family Unveils Funeral Arrangements for Chief (Hon.) Sir Sylvester Anyarue Chukwuma Ezeokenwa, KSJI (Ezeudo Umuchu; Iche Ezenwata)

 

FAMILY UNVEILS FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR CHIEF (HON.) SIR SYLVESTER ANYARUE CHUKWUMA EZEOKENWA, KSJI (EZEUDO UMUCHU; ICHE EZENWATA)


 

The family of the late Chief (Hon.) Sir Sylvester Anyarue Chukwuma Ezeokenwa, KSJI, has officially released the funeral arrangements for the revered political figure and community leader, who passed unto glory at the age of 71.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by his son, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

In the statement, Barr. Ezeokenwa described his father’s passing as the transition of a peace icon who dedicated his life to community development, public service, and the promotion of unity across political and social divides. The Ezeokenwa family of Ummunwabuaku-Umuezenwakpadolu Kindred of Umublio Village, Amanasaa Umuchu in Aguata LGA, expressed deep sorrow at the loss, but also gratitude to God for a life well lived.

Chief Ezeokenwa was a seasoned political administrator, philanthropist, Knight of St. John International (KSJI), and a man deeply committed to his Catholic faith. His contributions to the development of Umuchu community, Aguata LGA, and Anambra State at large remain indelible. His legacy as a peacemaker and elder statesman will continue to inspire generations to come.

The funeral rites will begin on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, with a Christian Wake Keep and Service of Songs at his residence at Housing Estate, Fegge, Onitsha, scheduled for 5:00 PM. This will be followed by a series of events honoring his legacy and celebrating his life of service.

On Thursday, July 17th, 2025, the day’s activities will commence at 1:00 PM with a Valedictory Session at the Onitsha South Local Government Secretariat, Woliwo, Onitsha. At 3:00 PM, the body will arrive at the Temple of the Knights of St. John International, St. Jude Commandery for a Cancellation Exercise, followed by a brief stopover at the APGA Secretariat in Fegge at 4:00 PM.

On Friday, July 18th, 2025, a Requiem Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart Catholic Parish, Ziks Avenue, Fegge, Onitsha, beginning at 10:00 AM. Thereafter, the body will depart for Umuchu at 12 noon, arriving at Umuchu Civic Centre by 2:00 PM for a Valedictory Session organized by the Umuchu Improvement Union Representative Assembly (UIURA). A Vigil Mass will follow at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Parish, Amanasaa Umuchu at 4:00 PM.

On Saturday, July 19th, 2025, the body will lie-in-state at his compound from 8:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Nome Parish, Umuchu at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place immediately after the mass at his residence. The family will receive guests for condolences at the Umuchu Mini Stadium Complex in Aguata LGA.

The final funeral activity, an Outing Mass, will hold on Sunday, July 20th, 2025, at SS Peter and Paul Parish, Amanasaa Umuchu, at 9:00 AM, marking the conclusion of the funeral rites for the beloved elder.

In line with public safety and legal requirements, the family has stated that the funeral rites will be conducted in strict compliance with the Anambra State Burial Law 2019.
