Six Years After: APGA Osun Chairman Remembers Late Dr. Adekunle Oyerinde

**SIX YEARS AFTER: APGA OSUN CHAIRMAN REMEMBERS LATE DR. ADEKUNLE OYERINDE**

As this month marks the sixth anniversary of the passing of the Late Dr. Adekunle Oyerinde, the Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Wole Adedoyin, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the deceased, describing him as a man of integrity whose contributions to politics and the development of Osun State remain unforgettable.

Dr. Oyerinde, a former Chairman of the Young Democratic Party (YDP) in Osun State, also served as the Public Relations Officer of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Osun State Chapter, and was the immediate past Director of Information and Strategy of the Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties (ACPP), before his untimely death in Osogbo on Sunday, July 7, 2019, after a brief illness.

In his tribute, Mr. Adedoyin, who was the 2018 governorship candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), noted that the vacuum left by Dr. Adekunle Oyerinde within Osun’s political landscape has remained unfilled. According to him, the late politician’s dedication to party politics, democracy, and the service of Osun State is a legacy that continues to inspire those who knew and worked with him.

Mr. Adedoyin recalled that Dr. Oyerinde was not only a political figure but also a beacon of integrity, whose passion for the people, especially the vulnerable in society, shaped his approach to politics and public service. He affirmed that the late Oyerinde’s commitment to unity among political parties and the advancement of democratic values in Osun State was unparalleled.

Reflecting on the life of Dr. Oyerinde, Mr. Adedoyin emphasized that his leadership of the Mass Action Joint Alliance (MAJA) and his roles in various political bodies were marked by selflessness, sincerity, and exemplary character. He further described Oyerinde as a principled man who sought collaboration over division, progress over stagnation, and the collective good over personal ambition.

“There are many things to be emulated from the life of Dr. Adekunle Oyerinde, particularly his sense of sacrifice and dedication to the service of others. He was a politician who stood firm on the side of truth and justice. His integrity was never in question because he consistently worked with people of integrity and was deeply committed to uplifting the downtrodden,” Adedoyin said.

Mr. Adedoyin used the occasion to call on the younger generation of politicians to learn from the values that defined Dr. Oyerinde’s life, urging them to embrace politics as a platform for positive change, selfless service, and the pursuit of a better society for all. He expressed hope that Osun’s political community will continue to uphold the ideals that Dr. Oyerinde cherished during his lifetime.

Finally, Mr. Adedoyin prayed that the Almighty God would continue to grant the family of the Late Dr. Adekunle Oyerinde and other loved ones the strength to bear the painful loss. He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed soul, trusting that his memory will continue to inspire and his contributions never be forgotten.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development through a strategic tour of four prominent local markets across Aguluzuigbo, Ichida, Obeledu, and Neni communities. The visit, which took place on Thursday, July 17, 2025, stressed the Governor’s people-centered approach and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s vision of sustainable, inclusive governance.

Governor Soludo, who interacted directly with traders, artisans, and market leaders, emphasized the importance of maintaining the existing partnership between his administration and the grassroots in order to deepen the ongoing transformation across Anambra’s rural and semi-urban areas. He highlighted that these communities form the bedrock of the state’s economic and cultural identity, and his administration remains determined to provide them with the necessary infrastructural support to thrive.

Speaking during the tour, Governor Soludo reiterated that his government’s development philosophy is anchored on building a “livable, safe, prosperous, and smart homeland” where no community is left behind. He stated that market improvement, road infrastructure, security, and sanitation will remain top priorities in driving his administration’s grassroots development agenda. According to him, empowering local markets translates to empowering the families and communities that depend on them.

The Governor also used the opportunity to appreciate the traders for their resilience and their continued support of his administration. He assured them that his government, under APGA’s progressive leadership, is already implementing policies that will reduce the cost of doing business in Anambra markets while ensuring traders enjoy more hygienic, secure, and enabling environments.

At each of the markets visited, Governor Soludo was warmly received by enthusiastic market women, youth leaders, and traditional rulers who expressed gratitude for his humility, accessibility, and readiness to directly engage with those at the grassroots. They applauded his efforts in restoring public trust in governance and commended the many ongoing infrastructural projects being executed across the state.

Governor Soludo reaffirmed that his administration’s achievements in road construction, education, healthcare, and environmental management would be intensified, with particular attention paid to rural communities. He noted that the APGA government is committed to ensuring that development reaches every ward, village, and family without bias or favoritism.

In a separate interaction with market unions and local leaders, the Governor encouraged them to continue fostering peaceful and organized market environments. He charged them to take ownership of ongoing government initiatives, including market sanitation programs, tax reforms, and security arrangements designed to protect lives and property.

The tour also provided an opportunity for Governor Soludo to gather firsthand feedback from the people regarding the impact of his policies. Many of the traders highlighted improvements in security, road access, and government responsiveness, while also making suggestions for further enhancements in market facilities and services.

Governor Soludo concluded the tour by reaffirming that APGA’s philosophy of “be your brother’s and sister’s keeper” remains at the heart of his administration’s governance model. He urged residents to remain steadfast in their support, noting that his government’s efforts are geared towards delivering long-lasting dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

The visit has further strengthened the confidence of the people in Governor Soludo’s leadership and the APGA government’s dedication to creating a more inclusive and prosperous Anambra State, where grassroots communities are active participants and beneficiaries of sustainable development.
